Media Services will join the production-greening outfit Earth Angel in celebrating Earth Hour on Saturday, March 24 in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Besides offering food, drink and DJ sets to attendees, the celebration will join the global “shut-off” that occurs annually from 8:30-9:30pm in local time zones around the globe.
Originated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Earth Hour movement asks cities and residents to shut off all electric power, to the extent feasible, for this one-hour period each year. This symbolic collective act is designed to remind us of the tremendous natural resources being used to power our population’s energy consumption, and to inspire us to take a moment in the dark to recognize how essential those resources are to the thriving of our planet.
The largest Earth Hour event in New York and now in its fourth year, the big switch-off will occur at Canoe Studios, in the historic Starrett-Lehigh building along the Hudson River. Party goes from 7-11pm, with the shutdown promptly at 8:30.
