NY / NJ Employers: Important Unemployment Changes

Original publish date: November 3, 2023

New York

Starting on November 13, 2023, New York State employers will be required to give written notice to employees regarding their right to file for unemployment insurance benefits.  This notice must be given at the time of any separation from employment, reduction in hours, temporary separation, or other interruption of continued employment that results in total or partial unemployment. The notice must be on a form furnished or approved by the New York State Department of Labor (NYDOL).

We are pleased to inform you that the form of written notice is now available from the New York State Department of Labor. You can find the form here. It is also accessible in our Cast & Crew Resource Library.

For more information on the law, visit Assembly Bill A398A.

Please be aware that the New Jersey Unemployment Compensation Law will soon mandate electronic data submission to the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) upon an employee’s separation.
